Over 2019, Ana and I have wanted to add some color to our kitchen but really couldn’t figure out where and how to go about it. With our design style we like to keep our walls a consistent color through out the house and then add pops of color in the furniture pieces that we pick. What we’ve noticed is that there is usually one thing that you find which inspires a project and that’s how we usually gain momentum. This time (most times, honestly) it was a great deal on our favorite app Nextdoor and we found around 50+ brass handles and the rest is history!

(Links to DIYs are found at bottom of post)

So in our first kitchen reno phase we (2017):

  • painted the walls from tan to white
  • painted and seals our counter tops

In our second reno we (2018):

  • Removed the top cabinets
  • Removed the soffit
  • Drywalled walls and ceiling
  • Spray Painted Hardware
  • Painted walls and textured ceiling
  • Added open shelving
  • Added new vent hood

In this most recent third reno (which will hopefully last for 5+ years) we:

  • Painted our lower kitchen cabinets (tuxedo style)
  • Added new hardware
  • Updated boob light fixture
  • Stained our shelving and vent hood a lighter color
  • Added lights under our shelving (thanks Poppy and Mimi 😊)
  • Upgraded and replaced our sink

So since moving in we’ve put quite a bit of time and energy into our kitchen. Our new sink is especially a game changer and I recommend anyone who is looking to replace their kitchen sink to do it sooner than later! The great thing with renovating the kitchen is that money spent on that project typically increases the resale value of your home (bathrooms are also in that category, but I’m also not an expert πŸ˜…). Our third reno costed us roughly $500. Majority of the cost came from the sink/faucet combo from Lowes (400). The other expenses came from a gallon of paint ($32), hardware upgrade ($10 – pull bars from Nextdoor saved us money), light fixture ($35 – from Ikea) stain (already purchased from a different project).

We absolutely love this sink, it is totally affordable, great for big PHO pots and looks sleek.

In phase 3, the only thing newish to us at this time was installing the kitchen sink. The sink that we decided to go with was purchased from Lowes. It is a single bowl sink with a detaching hose faucet. A few features that we love about it that is unique from the rest is that the arm that holds the faucet in place can be moved out of the way and it doesn’t spring back when using the hose. We love the elevated grid that it comes with because we can set down sponges while doing dishes without it sitting int he nasty dish water (it’s the little things)! We like that the faucet head is metal and feels so high end and quality. We will link below the DIY methods that we used for the sink as well as the other improvements that we tackled in this phase.

  • Kitchen Sink Install
  • Painted our lower kitchen cabinets (tuxedo style)
  • Updated Light Fixture
  • Stained our shelving and vent hood a lighter color

Overall we are very happy with our new sink and the color of the cabinets gives the kitchen more of a POP now. The lighter stain color is what our vision was at first but we were rookies with stains and over applied the first time around. Now time to think about phase 4… πŸ€”πŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ
